Wondering what to wear to celebrate Burns Night? Well, if this clan of tartan clad gents is anything to go by then plaid is definitely the way forward. Any true Scotsman will no doubt have a kilt hanging in his wardrobe just waiting to be worn, but now’s the time for the rest of us to catch up and try out a tartan suit for size.
You don’t necessarily need to have your own family tartan tailored into a bespoke suit. Vivienne Westwood has always been a fan of plaid, but we’ve seen the likes of Valentino, Moschino and Gucci follow suit with collections full of tartan tailoring. Matthew McConaughey’s giant check Vivienne Westwood three-piece suit is a bold look to pull off, but if you’re not feeling quite so brave there are plenty of more demure checks around that can form a wearable part of your working wardrobe. Scott Disick for one looks suitably dapper – but it’s not just the boys who’ve found a passion for plaid. Would you believe Theresa May and Cara Delevingne have been spotted wearing the very same tartan suit? It’s true!
For a more relaxed take on the trend wear your tartan blazer with a t-shirt and jeans, or pair some plaid chinos with a plain shirt. Either way you’d better get shopping before the shops sell out and you’re faced with the prospect of fashioning an outfit from a picnic blanket…
