Hangovers don’t just cause nausea and headaches – they have a damaging effect on your skin. We’re on hand to show you how to get rid of hangover skin in a jiffy

The main impact drinking has on your skin is dehydration and it’s the root cause of why your skin takes on that rather pasty look after you wake up from a night of drinking. To help you kick off 2017 in a way that doesn’t involved you being bed bound all day long, we’ve got the guide you should be following to have your skin in tip top shape from the get go.

Water is your saviour

Alcohol drains your skin of moisture and vital nutrients which is what causes it to look dull when you’re hungover. The quickest, cheapest and easiest way to rehydrate your skin it to drink plenty of water! Added bonus – this will help subside any headache or nausea your night of drinking might have brought on…

Exfoliation is key

A little light exfoliation will help to increase blood flow on your face. This works to ‘wake up’ your complexion and makes a visual difference to your skin as the rejuvenated blood flow will brighten up your skin.

Masks on

After exfoliating we recommend applying a hydrating face mask which will fill your skin with the nutrients it needs to fight off that dull, hungover look. Our current favourite is the Rodial hangover mask – a clay mask that provides a deep cleanse while also exfoliating to restore your usual fresh complexion.

The eyes have it

One of the most obvious signs of being hungover is puffy, red eyes. We suggest using a caffeine-based under eye serum as this will help to re-energise the skin cells under your eyes and reduce puffiness. If you want a homemade remedy, put a couple of spoons in the fridge for 20 minutes and then hold them against your under eye area for 10 minutes. This will work to cool and depuff the area – for free!
