It’s not just your clothes that need updating for the new season. Here’s the SS17 beauty trends we’ll all be sporting
As we turn our attentions towards SS17 and all the wardrobe changes it’ll be bringing, we’re also focusing on the beauty trends that we’ll be testing out this season. From neon lipsticks to glitter makeup that’s carrying on from AW16 and super food skincare, here’s the SS17 beauty trends you should be aware of.
Glitter makeup exploded onto the scene this winter and the sparkly trend is showing no signs of slowing down for SS17. Models at Fendi and DKNY sported glitter lips while those at Marc Jacobs kept it more traditional with some sparkly eyeshadow. If you’re nervous about looking like you’re heading off to a princess party, we’ve a guide on how to nail this sparkly beauty trend without looking like a 5 year old.
The eighties has made a huge revival on the fashion scene and now it’s worked its way into beauty as well. As bold as its fashion counterpart, 80’s beauty was seen on models at Louis Vuitton, Kenzo and Balmain with bold eyeshadow colours reaching all the way up to their eyebrows and a heavy application of blusher. Be warned – this trend is not for the shy and retiring types!
Super food skincare
With many of us looking at our diets to help keep our skin in top shape, many companies are now looking to incorporate ‘super foods’ into their skincare products. With everything from blueberries and avocadoes to turmeric and chia seeds supposedly boasting incredible skincare properties, you’ll be seeing a lot more of them in your skincare products.
Rag + Bone, Baja East and Altuzarra all adopted a grunge-chic vibe when it came to the makeup they used on their models. While the smokey eye is always a big deal, particularly for AW16, for SS17 they’re taking on a more dramatic effect, with black eyeliner and eyeshadow applied to the waterline before being smudged out.
While the ‘natural’ look has been going strong for years, it was taken to new heights for the SS17 catwalks and was perhaps the most commonly seen look. Hugo Boss, Tommy Hilfiger, Stella McCartney and countless others all went for a ‘as real as possible’ vibe – fresh and dewy skin with a hint of blush and not much else!
Bright lipsticks are always popular for the warmer months, but for SS17 they’ve taken on an almost glowing vibe, with neon lips being a popular makeup choice. Models for Mary Katrantzou, Jason Wu and Versace were all sported wearing neon orange, pink and red hues, meaning this summer should be a wonderfully colourful beauty season.
Charcoal has been heralded as a skincare saviour thanks to its ability to attract and absorb dirt and oil. Look for skincare products that contain activated charcoal as its gone through a process which increases the surface area of the particles which increases its capability to attract impurities and hold them. It offers a deep cleansing action to leave your skin feeling refreshed and clear and its set to be everywhere for SS17!
